My Biggest Breakthroughs and Personal Lessons In 2019
As I look back on this year, I’m so grateful. I do feel like I’ve grown deeper, fuller, wiser, simpler and yet more complex. I understand myself much better. I am learning to trust myself and the pace at which I grow.
Before I launch forward into 2020, I want take a look at my most meaningful shifts, as captured on the blogs I published this year. I think it’s immensely important to reflect. It’s how we change, grow and become.
Note: I have not mastered these seven areas by any means, but I have made enough progress that I have tasted freedom. There is much work to be done in each area, but for now, we gaze back in gratitude.
I took Myself Off Sugar
This year, I got the clear nudge from my inner self that I needed to remove all of the toxins and poison in the urban diet from my life. I could sense intuitively that if I want to write , I can’t be filled with low-vibing substances that clog up my system. I used to sit on the couch and eat way to much chocolate at the end of every dinner. It was felt like I was trying to fill a void with sugar that I knew could to be filled.
This year, a big breakthrough was learning to see that sugar is not a treat. It is more like a poison that sets off all kinds of inflammation in my body and makes my body work harder to clear out the poison. I look forward to experiencing even more of what life can be without sugar in 2019!

2. I am KEEPING My Eyes Wide Open
In the past, I was the most happiest in life when I was traveling. I knew it was a state of mind, a state of wonder and awe, more than the location. I always knew that part of the my job here on earth is to share what I’ve learned through travel. Moving back to the city has been a huge adjustment, but this year I was finally able to re-open my eyes of wonder. The fact that I was able to make videos again is a by-product of me learning to embrace wonder and adventure here. It feels so good, so enlivening to see my life with wonder again.

3. I am Embracing My Life In The City
Since I came back to Toronto two years ago, I knew I was here to stay for a while, but my soul resisted it. I constantly wondered when I’ll get to leave. This conflict in my soul has been exhausting at times. I wanted to exude the positivity, passion and purpose that resides in my best self, but my part of my soul clung to the dingy for escape.
This year, I started to accept and embrace my life here as I found this perspective:
“My whole life is a gift. I live in paradise now. I have been blessed with a life full of adventure and travel and I now live in my life’s greatest adventure. I am living IN my life’s greatest adventure. Everything I have now is a gift from God. There is so much goodness here. There is SO much goodness here and I’m going to see more and more of it.”

4. I Choose To Be An Artist
This year, I gave myself permission to create from my artistic heart. I am more than an artist, to be sure, but I am also an artist. Why does this matter? Because to be an artist is to decide that I will engage in the creative act and attempt to make something beautiful regardless of whether or not someone will pay me for it. I will look for beauty. I will persevere for excellence. I will savour the process. I am allowed to make things that look like crap and keep going. For me, there is creative freedom in identifying as an artist. It is a positioning of the heart, an openness to let love flow through me.

5. I am Learning to Manage my Finite Time for Maximum Potential
I never knew I could love time management so much. In 2019, I chose to view my jobs as an opportunity and started to figure out how to work around them to create. I read several books related to productivity and life management have been tweaking my life routines every since. I’ve made several Studio Sessions on this topic, if you’d like to learn more, and here is a blog to help you get started.

6. I am Sharing what Might help someone else
I am by no means an expert on productivity, creativity or the artist life, but I can share what is helping and working for me. This year, I started making “Studio Sessions”, simple videos on a white background that dive into more practical aspects of living a brave, meaningful and creative life. They are like mini podcasts that I publish every week on my Youtube. There is a part of my soul that is deeply fulfilled when I make these. It feels like, this is one of the things I’m supposed to be doing. I hope that these videos find their way to whoever needs them and helps.

7. I am Embracing My Personal Path
Learning to accept and embrace my personal journey is profoundly healing. I know that to continue being a creator, I have to let go of other people’s “progress” and trust my own journey. I’ve figured out that sometimes it’s not useful to push. I trust that things will come when they are meant to as I take steps in faith.
I found incredible wisdom from a short book by OSHO and I am still letting these words saturate my soul.
“Everybody is suffering and feeling inferior. This is a really strange situation. Nobody is inferior and nobody is superior because each individual is unique - no comparison is possible. You are you, and you are simply you, and you cannot be anybody else. And there is no need, either. You need not become famous you need not be a success in the eyes of the world. These are all foolish ideas.” - OSHO
